Lymphatic Massage

The lymphatic massage was developed in France by a Dr. Emil Vodder and his wife around the 1930s. They ended up creating what is known today as the Vodder Method, which includes a slow and light touch that helps circulate the body’s lymph fluid to stimulate the cleansing and detoxification of the body.

Key in the body’s immune defenses, the lymphatic system has three important functions. It helps your body absorb vitamins from your digestive system, delivering them to be used as fuel; removes toxins, dead blood cells, and other waste; and removes excess fluid and waste products from the various spaces between both the cells and organs inside the body.

On occasion, cold stones may be used at the end of the massage to calm any engorged blood vessels and to smooth the skin.

There are many benefits to receiving a lymphatic massage. Some benefits may include a boosted immune system, cleansing and removal of pathogens and toxins, aid sleep and relaxation, improved body shape, reduced swelling, decreased bloating, and increased muscle recovery. In addition to these benefits, there are some studies that suggest people who have conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic venous insufficiency, and lymphedema may benefit from this gentle therapy.
